Kaimakliotis LLC has advised on all aspects of Cyprus law Galileo Global Education and Providence Equity Partners on the acquisition of European University Cyprus from Laureate Education. Established in 1961, European University Cyprus is the oldest institution of higher education in Cyprus and received university status in 2007. The institution has a student enrolment of over 5,000 students and provides internationally recognised undergraduate, graduate and doctorate degrees.
Linklaters acted as lead counsel to Galileo Global Education and Providence Equity Partners and Allen & Overy acted as lead counsel to Laureate Education. The transaction also included the sale of Laureate Education’s Italian universities to Galileo Global Education.
Pavlos Kaimakliotis, partner at Kaimakliotis LLC, says: “This is undoubtedly one of the most high profile transactions in Cyprus during the last few years. We are delighted to have acted as Cyprus counsel to the buyer on a complex transaction of this nature involving numerous aspects of Cyprus law (including corporate, banking, real estate, employment, IP, etc.) and we enjoyed working with Galileo and the Linklaters team. This is also a transaction underlying the strong growth of Cyprus’ economy and the tertiary education sector in Cyprus specifically. There has been a resurgence of inbound M&A for Cyprus assets and Kaimakliotis LLC is well placed to advise on such deals given our depth in knowledge of the M&A market and its particulars.”
